Kiesow Excavating
Floyd Kiesow purchases his first backhoe and begins the business by digging basements and taking on excavation work.
What began with one backhoe in 1969 grew into a Wisconsin farm drainage and excavation company shaped by practical problem solving, steady relationships and a commitment to doing the job right.
In 1969, Floyd Kiesow purchased his first backhoe and began digging basements as Kiesow Excavating. The excavation work was steady, but an opportunity was emerging in the farm fields around him.
Neighbors and acquaintances began asking Floyd how his equipment and experience could help improve the productivity of wet farmland. As that demand grew, he looked deeper into agricultural drainage and the long-term need for the service.
That practical response to a real customer problem became the foundation of the company Kiesow is today.
Kiesow’s history is a story of seeing a need, investing in the right equipment and building a reputation one field and one project at a time.
Floyd Kiesow purchases his first backhoe and begins the business by digging basements and taking on excavation work.
After increasing requests from local farmers and encouraging guidance from the Soil Conservation Services Office, Floyd purchases his first tiling machine and the company becomes Kiesow Farm Drainage.
Farm drainage work continues to grow. As the company expands, the business adopts the Kiesow, Inc. name while remaining closely identified with farm drainage.
Floyd’s son, Brian, joins the business, adding another generation to a company already built around agricultural drainage, excavation and Wisconsin customer relationships.
Kiesow continues to serve Wisconsin farms and properties with agricultural drainage, GPS-guided planning, excavation and land-improvement services backed by decades of field experience.
The technology has changed considerably since the first backhoe and tiling machine. The principles behind the work are much more familiar.
The business began by responding to what local customers needed. That same approach remains central to evaluating drainage and excavation projects today.
The company’s history credits integrity as a major reason Kiesow remained strong while the agricultural drainage industry changed around it.
Decades in Wisconsin agriculture create something equipment alone cannot replace: familiarity with the land, the work and the people who depend on it.
The company eventually became Kiesow, Inc., but its roots in agricultural drainage remain a defining part of the business. Generations of experience now combine with GPS analysis and modern installation methods to solve the same basic challenge: helping water move where it should.
Experience is more than the number of years in business. It is what you learn from every field, every project and every customer along the way.
Kiesow’s history gives today’s customers a combination of long-term agricultural experience and modern drainage-planning capabilities.
